In an updated series of guidelines for App Store reviews, the tech giant stated that HTML5 games distributed within apps “may not provide access to real money gaming, lotteries, or charitable donations, and may not support digital commerce”.
Apple Zaps 25,000 Gambling Apps from Chinese App Store. Posted on: August 20, 2018, 07:32h. Last updated on: August 20, 2018, 07:32h. The Apple App Store recently removed almost twenty-five thousand illegal casino gambling apps over the weekend. If you have ever browsed the Apple Store for Apps using your iPhone or Ipad, you have an idea of the extensive mobile application selection they have.
This means that only native apps, those developed specifically for Apple’s operating system, will be accepted in the App Store. Operators running sports betting, poker, casino, bingo, lottery or horse racing betting that fail to comply now risk having their products removed.
The majority of gambling apps currently hosted in the App Store are HTML5 sites in a native wrapper, or so-called container apps. Both are cheaper and faster to develop than a fully-fledged native product, according to digital marketing agency Degree 53.
The Betfred-backed agency warned that developing native products could be an expensive and time-consuming process, especially with a deadline of September 3. This falls just days before the start of the National Football League season in the US, and weeks after the start of the European football season.
“Three months to build a fully featured native sportsbook app from scratch for a major operator is a massive undertaking and potentially unrealistic,” it said.
“It will require sizable and skilled native development teams to ensure all functionalities are fully compliant. However, operators with less complex products may be able to meet the deadline if they start now.”
The updated guidelines apply to all existing apps currently available in the App Store, in addition to any new apps that are added between now and the deadline of September 3.
However, Degree 53 noted that while Apple was likely to reject new updates to non-compliant apps, these were likely to be allowed to remain in the App Store until the September deadline.
Customers will still have access to these products on their own mobile devices, but may not be able to download any new updates. New players will also be unable to download them from the App Store.

Multiple items might be grouped onto one bill
When you buy items or pay for subscriptions, your payment method is charged at the time of purchase or within a few days.
If you don’t recognize a charge, look at your purchase history and see if multiple items were grouped onto one charge. Or look at the receipt that was emailed to you and see if multiple purchases were included.
In Europe, purchases might not be grouped.
If you see a pending charge for a small amount
If you update your billing information or add someone to your Family Sharing group, a temporary authorization hold for a small amount might appear on your statement. Authorization holds are removed by your card issuer or financial institution after a short time.
Which payment method is charged?
When you buy items or pay for subscriptions, Apple attempts to charge your payment methods in this order:
- Apple attempts to use your Apple ID balance to cover the full amount.
- If you don't have Apple ID balance or you don't have enough to cover the full amount, Apple attempts to charge your primary payment method. The primary payment method is at the top of the list in Settings on your iPhone. You can control which payment method is at the top of the list.
- If there's a problem with the primary payment method, or if the primary payment method can't be charged for the full remaining amount, Apple attempts to charge your other payment methods in order from top to bottom. If none of them can be charged, Apple may try again.

- If you're in a Family Sharing group, purchases are charged to your personal Apple ID balance. If you don't have enough Apple ID balance to pay for the purchase, the remainder is charged to the family organizer's primary payment method.
- You can’t charge gifts to your Apple ID balance. If you send a gift or gift card, your primary payment method is charged.
- Some subscriptions might not be charged to your Apple ID balance.
If none of your payment methods can be charged
If a purchase can't be charged to any of your payment methods, your account has a negative balance. You can't buy more items or update your apps until you update your payment method.
